Lunchtime events are listed as the Brown Bag Banter series and begin at 11:30am. These hour-long events are designed to fit into a lunch hour and guests are encouraged to bring their lunch to eat while hearing an interesting program. Beverages and desserts are provided.
Evening with History events are scheduled at 7pm and guests are encouraged to stay after the lecture to tour the museum and enjoy light refreshments.
Below is the list of scheduled lectures for 2009. We will add to this list as we confirm our speakers.

BROWN BAG BANTER • AUGUST 20 • 11:30pm
The Vanishing Cobb Photo Drive brought in many historic photos, and has greatly increased our photo archives. Curator Amy Reed will share some of her favorite photographs and talk about the historical significance that can be gained from everyday candids.
EVENING WITH HISTORY • SEPTEMBER 17 • 7pm
Bryan Black, Director of Music at First United Methodist Church, will be here to speak on Shape Notes. This primitive music system for singers simplifies the process of reading music by replacing traditional musical notes with shapes. It achieved its highest popularity during the Revolutionary War period, but fell out of fashion by the mid 1800's. The one area where it lingered was in the Sacred Music of the American South, and Black will share the history of the art from his personal experience as a 5 th generation Shape Notes singer.
BROWN BAG BANTER • OCTOBER • 11:30am
Approximately seventy thousand souls lay in rest at historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. Kaemmerlen will be at the Museum to talk about her book, The Historic Oakland Cemetery of Atlanta: Speaking Stones.
