Vanishing Cobb: A Photo Drive
The Marietta Museum of History would like to thank all those who brought their cherished photos into the Museum in response to the Vanishing Cobb Photo Drive in November. We are happy to report that we have received over 600 photos for our archives.
The stories we tell at Marietta Museum of History are stories of families and businesses and successes and heartbreaks. These are your hometown stories and we are keeping them for you.
The Marietta Museum of History receives donations of photos and objects all year long. If you or someone you know would like to donate photos (or bring in photos to be scanned and returned), or if you have an object you would like to donate, please contact us at 770-794-5710. The Marietta Museum of History is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
The Marietta Museum of History documents the history of Marietta and Cobb County through large and small artifacts, furniture, textiles, relics, oral history, reference files and photographs. The vast majority of our collection has been acquired through donations to the museum.
Donations are accepted any time of the year, but we are focusing on PHOTOS during the month of November. During that month, any member of the public that brings one or more photos to the museum will get to tour the museum for free on that day. The photo will either be scanned while you wait, or will be returned to you later that day. WE DO NOT NEED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL, but we can accept the originals as a donation. We will keep a digital copy of the photograph on file with a signed permission to use the photo in the future. A digital file will also be available to the donor.
What kind of photos are we seeking?
We are seeking ALL kinds of photographs taken in Cobb County.
What timeframe are we seeking?
We are looking for pictures taken at any point in history all the way through today's date.
What can I expect when I bring in my photo?
Museum Staff will put your photos into an envelope with your name and contact information. You will be given a form to complete describing the details of the photograph and granting permission to use the photo in the future. You will then be free to take a tour of the museum while the photos are being processed. Processing times will depend upon the number of photos brought in. Special arrangements may need to be made for large quantities.
