Internship Opportunity at the Marietta Museum of History

Area: Exhibits

Length of Internship: 10 to 15 weeks

Hours to Complete: Minimum of 150 hours

Non-Paid Internship

Scope:   The intern will work with the Curator and Registrar on the development, design and implementation of exhibits.

Intern Goals & Responsibilities: The internship goals will include imparting on-the-job training and experience in the world of museum objects. The internship pertains directly to the expansion of exhibit space in the Marietta Museum of History’s Kennesaw House.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research for upcoming exhibits
  • Locating appropriate artifacts in the collections for exhibit
  • Label Construction

Requirements: Prospective interns need to be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program or have recently completed work in such program. Students majoring in Public History, Museum Studies, Graphic Design or a related field are ideal.

The best candidates will be able to:

  • Work independently within the guidelines established by Curator and/or Registrar and ask questions when new situations arise
  • Work on multiple projects at the same time with minimum supervision
  • Interact professionally with varying groups including staff, volunteers, museum members, donors and guests.
  • Accept supervision and critique of work

Applicants must:

  • Be detail oriented, creative and resourceful
  • Have a good sense of humor
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain a professional and amicable demeanor and appearance
  • Required knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite
